VETERAN Fine Gael politician John Bailey topped the poll with over 800 votes to spare in the Dun Laoghaire ward.
Fianna Fail's Cormac Devlin was next in line with 1,252 first preferences and two People Before Profit candidates Melissa Halpin and Karl Gill are also strongly in contention.
Green Party candidate Ossian Smyth also polled over 1,000 votes marking his partys revival of fortunes.
Meanwhile Fine Gaels Patricia Stewart and Mary Fayne will be hoping for good transfers from John Baileys large surplus.
However longstanding local Labour rep Jane Dillon Byrne on 698 votes has a lot to do to get back in with Sinn Feins Jeanette Kavanagh more strongly placed after the first round.
