Clare County Council Shannon: First count summary

Fianna Fail’s Cathal Crowe was thrown aloft in the air tonight at the count centre in Ennis by his supporters after making it three in a row at Clare Co Council.
In 2004, the primary school teacher was the youngest elected councillor across the country and the Meelick man had to contend with a redrawn electoral area this time out to top the poll with 1,929 first preferences.
Labour lost its only seat in the constituency with Paschal Fitzgerald performing poorly gaining only 506 first preferences - in 2009, Fitzgerald secured 1,491 first preferences.
Sinn Fein has a chance of securing its only seat on the Council with Shannon-based Mike McKee grabbing 773 votes lying in 5th place after the first count.
Fine Gael are guaranteed at least one seat with outgoing Cllr John Crowe performing strongly while independent, Gerry Flynn looks set to hold onto his Shannon seat. Cllr Pat McMahon (FF) looks set to hold onto his seat while Cllr Sean McLoughlin (FG) will be scrapping it out for one of the final seats.
