Clare Co Co: Five parties set to power share

The major parties and independents at Clare Co Council look set for a power sharing arrangement over the next five years.

This follows Fianna Fail and Fine Gael each not making sufficient gains to achieve a majority in the Council with the parties now set to share the mayorship.

The big losers in Clare are Labour where the party’s only sitting councillor, Cllr Paschal Fitzgerald lost Labour's only seat after a tense recount in the Shannon area.

Independents performed strongly with two, Cllr James Breen and Cllr Christy Curtin topping the polls in their electoral areas with newcomer, Cllr Ann Norton grabbing another seat for the independents.
