Politicians cast their votes around the country

The Taoiseach and the Tanaiste led politicians to the poll this morning when they returned to their constituencies to cast their votes.

Enda Kenny, accompanied by his wife Fionnuala, were at home in Castlebar to vote.

The Taoiseach smiled for the cameras at St. Anthony's national school.

Meanwhile, Labour Party Leader, Tanaiste Eamon Gilmore cast his vote at Scoil Mhuire, Shanganagh Road, Shankill, Co Dublin.

In Cork city centre, candidate Billy MacGill cast the first vote at Cork's city hall at 7am today.

Lynn Boylan, a Sinn Fein EU candidate in Dublin casts her vote in Scoil Aine, New Road, Clondalkin, Dublin.

Sinn Fein's deputy president Mary Lou McDonald TD accompanied the candidate.

Election stations close at 10pm tonight.
