Luke 'Ming' Flanagan elected MEP

LUKE 'Ming' Flanagan has been elected to the European Parliament.

The Independent elected in the second count of the Midlands Northwest constituency.

Labour's Lorraine Higgins was eliminated. Her 33,744 votes will now be distributed.

Sinn Fein's Matt Carthy looks set to be the next candidate elected and is currently on 117,670 votes, just over 11,000 votes off the quota.

Fine Gael's Mairead McGuinness remains in third position with 94,019 votes.

The battle for the final seat continues between  Marian Harkin on 72,045 and Pat 'The Cope' Gallagher on 60,466.
