'Georgie Burgess' push gets BOD's No 1

Independent TD Finian McGrath has a celebrity fan -- the one and only BOD.

Ireland and Leinster rugby legend Brian O'Driscoll posted a picture of Finian's election poster on twitter yesterday, claiming the moustachioed Marino menace looks like George Burgess from the film 'The Snapper'.

Character

"Vote Georgie Burgess number 1!" BOD posted, and said Finian and the moustachioed movie character were doppelgangers.

Mr Burgess was played by actor Pat Laffan, who also starred as the cult character Pat Mustard in 'Father Ted'.

In 'The Snapper', based on the Roddy Doyle book of the same name, Mr Burgess gets 20-year-old Sharon Curley pregnant, and Sharon is so ashamed she refuses to name the father. She eventually becomes the talk of the town, with locals saying: "Sharon Curley's up the pole."

Finian will be happy if he's up in the polls this Friday -- as Mr Burgess might say: A1, Finian, A1.
