Floating Voter: Sinn Fein promises free education worth €70,000 for every child
SINN Fein last night claimed the cost of educating a child from junior infants through to college now stands at around €70,000.
The party said it would guarantee free education for every child for life, including at third level, if elected to government.
And it again claimed that a new 48pc tax rate on salaries over €100,000 would cover the costs of ensuring education was free.
The party's education spokesman, Aengus O Snodaigh, said free education in Ireland was a "myth".
"The cost of education has increased exponentially year-on-year, with experts indicating the cost of educating a child from junior infants through to third level to be in and around €70,000," he said.
