TOP businessmen are throwing their weight behind financier Dermot Desmond's plan for turning around the economy and political system.
A number of influential figures are understood to have attended meetings relating to the radical proposals to reform the system. Mr Desmond said wide-ranging changes are need to the electoral system and the method of governance.
Among his suggestions are reducing the number of key cabinet ministers to around 10 to ensure they work cohesively on decisions. In the blueprint, 'Ireland First: Political Reform - Effective and Efficient Government', the Mr Desmond also advocated appointing qualified people outside of politics as ministers.
