Healy-Rae gets out of hospital to vote for grandson

EVERY vote counts and Jackie Healy-Rae wasn't going to let his grandson down in his first election.
The patriarch of the Healy-Rae dynasty got a special dispensation to get out of hospital to vote. The former Independent TD for South Kerry has spent the last three weeks at Kerry General Hospital recovering from knee replacement surgery.
He was collected by his son John from hospital and driven to his local
polling station. But when they arrived it
turned out to be a case of bringing the mountain to Mohammad and the 83-year-old was accommodated to perform his civic duty without leaving the car.
"I wasn't going to leave my grandson Johnny down," declared Jackie.
Johnny has been a member of Kerry County Council since his co-option in 2011. This is his first time to seek election for the new South and West Kerry electoral area. His father Danny is also running in the Killarney electoral area.
