The source of the text is unknown.

The party has three candidates: Michael Smith Jnr, Jackie Cahill and Siobhán Ambrose.

But the mystery message told party members last night to vote for Mr Cahill.

The message was sent about 7.30pm to party members, saying: "At this stage of the evening for tactical reasons, in this area, please vote 1 JACKIE CAHILL. Continue for S Ambrose & M Smith. Vote Jackie 1. Vote FF."

But another message was sent 50 minutes later, rejecting the assertion: "All members please note a recent text message sent out with the banner of FF election was NOT from or authorised by Tipperary Fianna Fáil Organisation and should be disregarded - Frank Begley, Director of Elections (Sorry for confusion)."
