Bernard Durkan was attending the event organised by the North Kildare Environmental Protection Group at the Hamlet Court Hotel in Johnstownbridge.

'Sit down, sit down," a member of the audience can be heard telling Mayo native Durkan in this video clip who was standing to make a point.

Emotions ran high as the debate progressed with both Mr Durkan and the audience raising their voices and shouting over each other.

Attempts made by the moderator of the event proved futile as the argument raged on.

It is understood that Mr Durkan was in favour of the establishment of windfarms in the county and disagreed with claims that Fine Gael had shares in windfarms.

Finally, Mr Durkan made for the exit, a move that was greeted with cheers and choice words from the audience.
