The Irish politician that most people would like to date this Valentine's Day has been revealed.

Drumroll please....

Leo Varadkar, has topped a poll as the number one choice of date this Valentine's Day.

In a study, commissioned by iD mobile, a fifth of 1,000 Irish people interviewed, chose the Minister for Health as their political paramour for the international day of romance.

So if Leo is unavailable, who's next?

Sinn Féin leader and Pierce Brosnan look-a-like, Gerry Adams, came in second place with 12 per cent of the votes.

The country's political leader, Taoiseach Enda Kenny, proved that power doesn't always win dates as he came in third place with nine per cent of the votes, followed by Fianna Fail leader Michael Martin (eight per cent).

When it comes to the women of Irish politics, Reuna leader Lucinda Creighton was the most popular choice for a Valentine's date.

She was followed by Sinn Féin’s Mary-Lou McDonald (15 per cent), Independent Claire Daly (12 per cent) and Tánaiste and Labour Leader Joan Burton (5 per cent).
