If things go to plan for Averil Power, she’ll be boxing her way to electoral success this Friday.
And the Independent senator has opened up about politics - in the unlikely setting of a Dublin gym.
In the latest campaign video launched as part of Election 2016, Ms Power is seen rolling out the punches with her trainer.
“I've done three or four fights at this stage. They are always a little bit scary and challenging but that's the buzz that comes with it,” Ms Power says.
“I love that after a tough day at the office, you come here and work through the stresses and strains of the day.”
The former Fianna Fail politician will be part of a dogfight to secure a seat in the hotly contested Dublin Bay North constituency.
But she says she is determined to be elected in order to ensure the passing of her Adoption Bill.
“The only thing I worry about is being able to deliver for people. I know that sometimes there is a lot resting on you. A lot of people are dependant on you, particularly for example with my adoption bill,” Ms Power says.
“I think there are too many people involved in politics who don't actually care about anything. It's just a job to them, they are going through the motions. They don't believe, they don't have a vision, it doesn't mean anything to them.
"Whereas for me, it's everything, it's having that opportunity to fight for people to make a positive difference , to get things done, to change the world by a tiny little bit for people.
I'm not here to score points. I'm here to make a difference.”
