Outgoing Equality Minister Aodhán Ó Riordáin has announced that he will seek to contest the Seanad election after losing his Dáil seat last week.
The Labour TD made the announcement this evening, one week after he was eliminated from the race for Dublin Bay North.
“I can confirm that I’m seeking Labour nomination to run as a candidate in the upcoming Seanad election,” he announced on Twitter.
Visibly emotional after his loss in Dublin Bay North, Mr Ó Riordáin said he’d take some time out to contemplate his next move.
“I’m going to take some time out, it’s all very raw. It’s been grudging couple of months and it’s been a difficult few years.
“I didn’t get into politics to further my own ambitions… so there are many different ways you can pursue to help people and politics is only one."
