FG and FF are the best option for a new government - Independent TD
Roscommon-Galway TD Denis Naughten believes Fine Gael and Fianna Fail are the best option to form a new Government after he and other Independents failed to share power with either party.
Independents have been talking to the two biggest parties in the hope of forming a minority Government ahead of another Dail vote for Taoiseach today.
He welcomed acting Taoiseach Enda Kenny's meeting with Fianna Fail leader Micheal Martin – to be held after the poll as no result is expected.
“The move now should be towards a majority Government as minority Government is very difficult to achieve,” he said on RTE's Sean O'Rourke programme.
“Space should be provided to both Fine Gael and Fianna Fail to form an arrangement.

"Some sort of common ground for constructive partnership is needed between them."
When asked whether he preferred either Mr Kenny or Mr Martin as Taoiseach, Mr Naughten replied: “that's for the big boys to sort out themselves”
He was joined by Fine Gael TD Kate O'Connell who also preferred the same Government option.
“People didn't vote for change. People voted for a Government. They come into my pharmacy and say, 'What is our problem? Why can't you form a Government,” she said.
