Kerry divided over location of count centre
A row has broken out in Kerry about where the general election count will be held - even before the date has been fixed.
Sports arenas are not suitable as election count centres, and alternative venues such as hotels with hot food would be preferable, a meeting of Kerry County Council was told.
Kerry is now a single constituency meaning there will be one, not two count centres.
The Killarney Aura Sports and Leisure Centre was "great for swimming," but not so much as a count centre, said Cllr Johnny Healy-Rae.
Tralee representatives say the count should be held there in the county capital. However, county registrar Padraig Burke said the decision will be made in terms of venue suitability.
