Jack and Jill CEO to run for Seanad - but cuts all ties to Renua

The founder of the Jack and Jill Foundation children's charity, Jonathan Irwin, has cut all ties to Renua Ireland and will run for the Seanad as an Independent.
Well-known campaigner Mr Irwin has been nominated by outgoing senators Katherine Zappone and Fidelma Healy Eames, as well as TDs Mattie McGrath and Michael Harty.
He had planned to contest last month's General Election in Kildare South under the Renua banner but pulled out, citing health reasons.
Asked why he is not running for Renua, he replied: "I do admire Lucinda [Creighton] but I'm no longer a member. Long before Renua came along, I had said I stand as an Independent. It just simply didn't work out . . . The only banner I have is Jack and Jill."
However, Mr Irwin is to step down as CEO of foundation and will be replaced by Hugo Jellett.
