Cllr Joe Crowley, who was in his early 50s and from the North Circular Road area of Limerick, died suddenly yesterday while out canvassing for Mr O'Dea.

The married father of three adult children had recently spoken about issues with his health last year, when he was diagnosed with severe anaemia, and how he felt he was getting back on track.

He became a councillor for Limerick City North in 2014 and was director of marketing and communications for Mr O'Dea in the 2011 General Election.

It is understood that he was canvassing in the Drombanna area of Co Limerick when he collapsed and was rushed to University Hospital Limerick.
