THE arduous task of counting the millions of votes cast in Election 2016 will begin Saturday morning, but its easy for you to keep up to date with every count on Independent.ie.

Our team of 40 reporters are covering every count centre in the country and will be sending results directly to the Independent.ie Election Centre as soon as they are announced. Our political team and data scientists will be analysing the results as they flow in, providing in-depth analysis of the results and insight into their meaning for the country.

The real-time results on independent.ie will enable you to track the progress of the count in each constituency, the candidates elected and eliminated, and the national picture as it emerges. You can reach your constituency by selecting it from the map in the Election 2016 section.

On each of the constituency pages you will find the number of votes for each candidate in every count. The candidates in the list will be automatically reordered based upon their performance, so you can see at a glance which candidates are topping the poll or are well placed to take a seat. Candidates marked in green have been elected, while those marked in red have been eliminated.

Additionally, you will find a detailed visualization of how Ireland's Proportional Representation electoral system (PR-STV) plays out in that constituency. It animates the distribution of the surpluses of elected candidates and the votes of eliminated candidates on a count by count basis. An example of this visualization is below and the animation can be started by pressing the play button.

Of course, the count visualisations are just one aspect of our comprehensive coverage on independent.ie across the weekend.
