Early favourite Maureen O’Sullivan eliminated as Ceann Comhairle count continues

Independent TD Maureen O’Sullivan has been eliminated from the race for the position of Ceann Comhairle in the 32nd Dáil.

The TD for the Dublin Central constituency was eliminated after the third count this afternoon.

Fianna Fáil TD Seán Ó’Fearghail is currently on 61 votes after the third count, while Fine Gael’s Andrew Doyle is trailing behind with 48 votes.

Earlier, Fine Gael's Bernard Durkan was eliminated after the first count and his 21 votes were distributed.

While Sinn Féin's Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin was eliminated after the second count having received just 24 votes and no transfers.

The election for Ceann Comhairle is now a two-man race of Fianna Fail versus Fine Gael.
