Elderly woman killed and another seriously injured in car crash

A woman in her 70s has been killed in a car crash this afternoon.

The passenger was killed when the car she was travelling in collided with a jeep in Carlow.

The fatal accident occurred at Kilcarrig, Bagenalstown at around 2.45pm today.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her body has been removed to Carlow mortuary.

The driver of the car, a woman in her early 70s, was taken to St Luke's Hospital, Kilkenny with serious injuries.

The female driver of the jeep in her mid 30s has been taken to the same hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Garda forensic collision investigators examined the scene.
