Elderly woman dies after collision

Donaghadee Road in Bangor, CO down, remains closed following a fatal collision

An elderly woman has died after being hit by a car in Co Down.

The accident happened at Donaghadee Road, Bangor, close to the junction with Groomsport Road shortly after 11.30am on Saturday.

The woman, aged in her 90s, was taken to the Ulster Hospital in Dundonald for treatment but died a short time later.

A PSNI spokesman said officers were keen to hear from any witnesses who saw the accident which involved a Toyota car.

The crash is not being treated as a hit-and-run incident.

The road remains closed as police continue their investigations.
