Elderly pedestrian dies after she is struck by truck in town square

A woman in her early seventies has died after she was struck by a truck this afternoon.

The fatal road collision occurred on Wolfe Tone Square, Bantry, Co Cork at approximately midday.

The body of the female pedestrian was removed to Cork University Hospital where a post mortem will take place, garda said today.

The driver of the truck is uninjured.

Garda Forensic Collision Investigators are undergoing a technical and forensic examination of the scene.

The road has been closed and local diversions are in place.
