Elderly man has been rushed to hospital with head injuries after a car crash

AN elderly man has been rushed to hospital with head injuries after a car crash in Cork this evening.

The man, in his 70s is understood to have been involved in a single car collision near Skibbereen Town shortly after 8pm.

His injuries are not understood to be life threatening.

He was taken to Skibbereen rugby pitch and was picked up at 8:30pm and was transported to Cork Airport.

The man was then taken by ambulance the rest of the way, because there is no landing station at Cork University Hospital.

The ambulance arrived at the hospital shortly after 9:30pm.
