Elderly brother and sister tied up and beaten during robbery at their home

An elderly brother and sister are said to be in shock today after being beaten, tied up, and robbed at their remote home in Kildare last night.

The attack happened in the townland of Thomastown East, Rathangan at around 8.30pm.

The man and his sister, both thought to be aged in their 60s, were watching television when they heard a noise at the front of the house.

When he went to investigate the man was approached by a gang of men wearing balaclavas and baseball caps and armed with golf clubs.

They beat him to the ground and dragged him back inside where they also attacked his sister, beating her around the face.

The elderly siblings were tied up and their home ransacked.

A sum of money thought to be in four figures was robbed from them and the gang then escaped in a waiting car.

Gardai are investigating but no arrests have yet been made.
