HOMEOWNERS are responding to the plight of Irish students. Richard and Noreen White are a young recently married couple willing to open their doors to two students for the incoming college year.

"We just really feel for the students this year and we wanted to help," said Richard, who lives in Shankill, Co Dublin. "I lived in digs in college and I loved it, I was really looked after and well fed and it made the transition into first year much easier," said Richard.

The couple are offering two double bedrooms upstairs with an ensuite. The Whites said their home was ideally positioned near DART and bus routes into town.

"We would offer a hotel-like service Monday to Friday for about €125 a week including all bills, Wi-Fi, an evening meal and a continental breakfast," said Richard, adding that it is a good incentive for homeowners with spare rooms in the city.

"It's a great opportunity for us too from an economical point of view and we'd be foolish not to take it."
