Video: Leaving Certificate students on their relief (and a small surprise) in English Paper 1

The late Irish poet Seamus Heaney appearing in English Paper 1 seemed to be the only surprise for Leaving Certificate students as they took their places for the first exam this morning.

Some exam-goers were quick to disagree, saying the Nobel Prize winner was simply ‘too big’ to only appear in the poetry section of the second paper.

Now thousands nationwide are wondering whether to include Heaney in their last-minute notes for the second paper tomorrow.

The one thing students did agree on after their first Leaving Certificate exam experience was that it’s ‘good to get them started’.

A total of 118,000 students took their places at exam tables across the country this morning for the beginning of both the Leaving and Junior Certificate exams. caught up with Leaving Certificate students from Loreto College, Institute of Education and Catholic University School, Dublin after their first exam – see what the students had to say in the video above.
