Terry Wogan's family to sponsor €10k elite sports scholarship for students

Terry Wogan'a family are sponsoring an elite sports scholarship for students at the University of Limerick.

The famous broadcaster's family will donate €10,000 a year to support a top class athlete at the mid western university from September 2016.

The deal was finalised with Lady Helen Wogan earlier this week and  announced at the annual president's dinner in the University of Limerick

It is one of a number of new elite sports scholarships at the university, worth a total of  more than  €200,000 for which students may apply.

Terry Wogan, who died earlier this year,  was a native of Limerick and was awarded an honorary doctorate by the university in 2004.
