The anxious wait is almost over for more than 56,000 Leaving Certificate students, who will receive their results on Wednesday.

The Irish Independent and Independent.ie are offering a range of supports to steer students and their parents through what can be a confusing period.

This newspaper will publish a special 20-page supplement on Wednesday filled with information and advice on the next steps.

The freephone Exam 2015 Helpline - 1800 265 165 - will open on Wednesday at 10am, when professionally-qualified guidance counsellors will be on hand to give one-to-one answers to individual concerns and queries.

The unique National Parents Council post-primary (NPCpp) helpline is sponsored by the Irish Independent, Eircom and the Department of Education and Skills.

As well as members of the Institute of Guidance Counsellors, a representative of the grant-awarding body SUSI will also be available to deal directly with queries about student grants.

The helpline will run for six days and the opening hours are: Wednesday August 12 and Thursday August 13, 10am-7pm; Friday August 14, 10am-1pm.

It will re-open on Monday August 17 to coincide with the release of CAO offers.

Next week's opening hours are: Monday, August 17 and Tuesday, August 18, 8am-7pm; Wednesday August 19, 8am-1pm.

To complement the Exam Helpline, Independent.ie will be running an interactive CAO blog on Wednesday, August 12, from 10am and again on Monday, August 17, from 8am, with guidance counsellors answering queries.

Questions can be sent directly to the blog itself, queries can be tweeted via #IndoSubmit or emails sent to contact@independent.ie.

Submissions to the main Independent Facebook account will also be addressed.
