Property tax and wind turbines make it topical
LC Maths: Ordinary Paper 2

PROPERTY tax was a topical issue on this paper and, similar to higher level, the question went beyond pure maths, with students invited to offer an opinion as to why some people may not have registered for it.
Wind turbines, which have featured regularly in the headlines in the past year, also made an appearance.
So, while a departure from maths questions of old, according to Eamonn Toland of TheMathsTutor.ie, "they didn't overdo the 'wordiness' of these questions and students should have been able to understand the underlying mathematics".
Mr Toland described it as a fairly straightforward paper and, as an illustration, he said the applied trigonometry questions "should have been very doable for any reasonably prepared student".
Tony Magennis of Association of Secondary Teachers Ireland (ASTI) and St Laurence's College, Loughlinstown, Dublin said, overall, students were reasonably happy, although they found Section A Q5, on geometry, difficult.
Slightly more challenging than Paper 1, with some tricky elements, was how Jean Kelly, maths teacher at The Institute of Education, described it.
