'Nice and approachable' music paper may have thrown weaker students
A nice paper that was more approachable than last year, is how Dr Susan McCormick of Dublin’s Institute of Education described the Leaving Certificate Music Higher Level paper.
She said of the six questions on the papers most students attempt question 1 and 5.
In Q1 a major melody, with an upbeat, was presented and she said in comparison with minor melodies on past papers the major melodies typically introduce more complex rhythmic pattern.
She said weaker students could have been thrown by it, but if students had studied past papers, they would have known that every major melody has had upbeat.
She said some students might have found elements of Q5 challenging.
