Lecturers in institutes of technology vote for strike action
Lecturers in institutes of technology have voted overwhelmingly in favour of strike action over a range of issues, including funding and staffing cuts.
The Teachers’ Union of Ireland (TUI), which represents 4,000 lecturing and research staff, says that in the absence of “meaningful negotiations, strike action before the general election is inevitable”.
The TUI executive will consider the next step when at a meeting in the New Year. The ballot result was 92pc in favour of industrial action, on a turnout of 56pc of members
