An Irish woman is set to be appointed the first female vice-chancellor of Oxford University in its 785-year history.
A Tramore, Co Waterford native, Professor Louise Richardson (56), a political scientist with an expertise in terrorism, has already carved out a stellar international career, returning from the US to become principal and vice-chancellor of Scotland's University of St Andrews in 2009.
She had an interest in politics from an early age - as a teenager in the 1970s she was fascinated by the unfolding Troubles.
