Former European Commissioner Máire Geoghegan-Quinn will lead a review into gender equality in higher education institutes in Ireland.
A five-person panel will undertake a "comprehensive, system-wide review" into gender profiles and equality policies that are currently in place in all higher education institutes in Ireland which are publicly funded.
A spokesperson for the Higher Education Authority (HEA) said the working group will deliver a report within a year, and will begin by looking at information that has already been collated by the body. It will then move to speak to staff working in the higher education institutes.
Ms Geoghegan-Quinn served as the European Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science from 2010 to 2014. She will be joined on the panel by UL Professor Pat O'Connor, Ryan Shanks from Accenture Ireland, Associate Professor in Sociology at Uppsala University Helen Peterson, and Professor Paul Walton of the University of York in England.
