UCD and art college join forces
DUN Laoghaire Institute of Art Design and Technology (IADT) and University College Dublin (UCD) have signed a deal to build a strategic alliance, writes Katherine Donnelly.
The new partnership is in line with wider plans to streamline the higher education sector and cluster third-level colleges either geographically or around areas of specialisation.
Among the changes envisaged under the alliance is greater rationalisation around the creative arts and media in the Dublin region.
IADT president Dr Annie Doona said the agreement with UCD signified the further development of their ongoing collaboration in areas such as teaching, research and innovation.
She said the Dun Laoghaire college would maintain its specialised position and the announcement was a step forward in developing relations between the two.
UCD deputy president Professor Mark Rogers said the agreement would allow for the development of specific plans to encourage and facilitate joint projects on an academic, as well as on a social and innovation exchange level.
