New question type poses challenge for students

A new type of question on the Leaving Cert Economics Higher Level paper made it challenging, according to teacher Bairbre Kennedy of Malahide Community School, Co Dublin, and the ASTI.
She said students could not have had their answers prepared and would have had to draw on wider knowledge than was in their books. In contrast, ordinary level was along the usual lines.
Leaving Cert Design and Communications Graphics Higher Level was a "fair but demanding" paper, said Michael Horan of St Brigid's Presentation Secondary School, Killarney, and the ASTI. He said the ordinary level paper was well received.
The day got off to a harmonious start for Junior Cert candidates sitting Music, with papers that were "fair and balanced", according to Siofra Cox of Convent of Mercy Secondary School, Roscommon town, and the ASTI. Noel Cronin of Borrisokane Community College, Co Tipperary, and the TUI, said students would have found some parts of higher level Question 5 challenging but doable.
Seamus Walshe of Presentation College, Askea, Carlow, and the ASTI, said students were happy with both Junior Cert Technology papers.
