Maths failure was one of the main concerns of students and parents who contacted the Exam 2014 Helpline yesterday.

The 1800 265 165 helpline, organised by the National Parents Council post primary (NPCpp), dealt with almost 500 queries.

As well as concerns about failing maths, another big topic was about appealing results and viewing exam scripts. A representative of the student grants body, SUSI, has joined members of the Institute of Guidance Counsellors on the helpline.

The helpline, which opens today from 10am to 7pm, is sponsored by the Irish Independent and Eircom, and supported by the Department of Education and Skills.
