There were no surprises – but careful thought and a thorough knowledge of the course was required of Leaving Certificate Chemistry Higher Level candidates, according to teacher Tara Lyons.
As in previous papers, organic chemistry was a noticeable feature of this examination, said Ms Lyons of the Institute of Education, Dublin
She said the opening question on vinegar would have been welcomed by any well prepared student and the old faithfuls, atomic theory, rates of reaction, equilibrium and water all featured as full questions.
“While there was no place for rote learning here it was a well-balanced paper that rewarded hard work and tested ability,” she concluded.
