A lovely choice of questions that left students happy was the verdict of teachers on the Leaving Certificate Chemistry Higher Level exam.
Ciara O'Shea of the Association of Secondary Teachers' Ireland (ASTI) said there was something for everyone, including a topical question on the Japanese nuclear reactors that were damaged by the 2011 tsunami.
Ms O'Shea, St Attracta's Community School, Tubbercurry, Co Sligo, said there were a couple of questions that required "outside the box" thinking.
Dr Martina Audley of Yeats College, Galway, described it as a "very fair balanced exam, which provided a genuine opportunity for all students to demonstrate their understanding of the subject".
Meanwhile, Tara Lyons, of The Institute of Education described it as an "exam paper that did what any good examination should: it required students to understand chemical concepts and then reference this understanding to real-life situations."
Meanwhile, ordinary level candidates had a "difficult" paper, and were pushed to the limit of their knowledge, said Ms O'Shea.
