Leaving Cert Physics: Different style makes for an unfriendly paper
There was a difference in style and presentation in the Leaving Certificate Physics Higher Level paper, which teacher Pat Doyle said would have thrown students.
Mr Doyle, of the Institute of Education, Dublin said the paper was not “student friendly” in that regard.
However, he said while it gave the impression of being difficult, if students kept their cool and read carefully through the questions, they would have realised it was not as difficult as it first appeared.
But he said the difference in presentation meant that students who had studied with past papers would have been thrown immediately.
He said in Section A, students might have been thrown by Question 3, on measuring the wave length of light, as it also appeared on last year’s paper, the first time in 15 years that a question has been repeated like this.
Mr Doyle said some of the questions in Section B were very wordy.
