Accommodations provided by the state Examinations Commission

Q THE State Examinations Commission (SEC) makes a range of what are known as reasonable accommodations to assist candidates with special needs in the leaving and junior cert exams.
Students with permanent or long-term conditions, including visual and hearing difficulties, or specific learning difficulties, which they believe will significantly impair their performance in the examinations may apply.
A reasonable accommodation may be made to candidates who are sitting written, oral or aural exams.
Depending on the nature of the disability, the special arrangements include the provision of readers for candidates with reading difficulties and scribes, tape-recorders and the use of computer technology for students who have writing difficulties.
