A step in the right direction

Congratulations to the thousands of CAO applicants receiving an offer today.
For some, it will be their first offer of the season, while others will be thrilled to have received a higher preference on their CAO list.
After last week's CAO Round One, over 45,000 students already have their minds made up and are busily preparing for college life. Others have decisions to take after the release of CAO Round Two.
There is sure to be disappointment about not getting a particular course, and, for some, there will be indecision. Is the offer in their hand the one they really want?
The next step in a student's educational journey is a big one, so anyone with an outstanding concern is advised to take time and seek necessary advice, such as from the school guidance counsellor or a third-level or further education college.
The important thing to remember is that there are many routes to the same destination and any uncertainty a student feels today can be resolved. Once a student moves forward with a new focus, disappointments fade.
Our guidance counsellor, Aoife Walsh outlines various possibilities open to those still considering their options and we hope there is something there for everyone.
We include personal stories of students who had to think, and perhaps, think again, about ways of pursuing their ambitions, and how they got where they wanted to be, even without those CAO points.
