EBS to hike its mortgage interest rate

Mortgage holders with EBS are to be hit with a rate hike after the building society - which is about to merge with AIB - announced it is increasing its Standard Variable Rate mortgages.
The 0.25% rise will see the SVR increase to 4.8%. It will come into effect from August 1.
It will cost homeowners an extra €12 per month, on an average EBS mortgage of €90,000.
The building society blamed the continued high cost of borrowing funds.
