AN Irish family have won their battle to have a full police investigation into the disappearance of a 24-year-old Irishman, who vanished three years ago in Holland.
James Patrick (JP) Grealis, from Achill, Co Mayo, vanished without a trace after leaving a guesthouse to look for work on October 23, 2008, in the town of Breda, south of Rotterdam.
He was seeking work as a carpenter.
At the time, Dutch police did not believe that there was anything suspicious about his disappearance. His family believed that he may have been the victim of a serious crime but police did not pursue any such inquiry.
In the years that followed, the Grealis family made numerous trips to Holland in their search for clues into his disappearance. Last week, they met with their Dutch lawyer and the public prosecutor assigned to the case.
The Breda district attorney's office contacted the Grealis family yesterday and told them that a full police investigation would now be held into the mysterious disappearance.
