Dumped urine bottles cause a wee problem

David Forsythe

IT'S A wee problem that has given litter wardens a big headache.

In the last two weeks, almost 300 bottles filled with urine have turned up in ditches and fields on the outskirts of Cork city. The first incident occurred near Glanmire on the north east of the city when dozens of Coke bottles full of urine were found by a local farmer.

It was initially thought that the bottles may have been medical waste dumped by a patient from a nearby hospital but since then plastic bags filled with Fanta bottles containing urine have turned up in Crosshaven, 15 miles to the south east of the city. It is not clear whether the same culprit is to blame or if this is a copycat incident. Glanmire based county councillor Noel Costello believes there is a single culprit responsible.

"I personally think one person has been doing this over a long period of time," he said.

"I believe someone has either a physical or mental health problem and needs help. If there is a person in difficulty out there he can contact me and I will try and get him the help he needs," he said.
