Dublin B&B owner wins hospitality award

The owner of a Dublin bed and breakfast was today presented with a top hospitality award.

Mary Buckley of Sandyhills B&B in Rush clinched the AA Ireland 'Bean an Ti' accolade which celebrates exceptional commitment and hard work by a proprietor.

Tourism Minister Mary Hanafin presented the AA hospitality awards, which are among the most prestigious in the industry.

Ms Buckley, who opened the B&B five years ago, said although she was a latecomer to the business she had a wealth of experience in running a home.

"Applying these skills professionally was a simple progression and the real secret to making guests at Sandyhills feel right at home," Ms Buckley said.

She has attended various baking courses and a chocolate making class in Germany.

The AA Hotel of the Year prize went to the Kildare Hotel and Country Club, Co Kildare.
