Drugs seized in Kerry as deaths from heroin soar

GARDAI in Kerry have made a significant seizure of drugs and arrested a man as part of a planned operation yesterday as it emerged that eight people have died from heroin and opiate abuse Tralee in just two years.

A young woman died last week in the Kerry town and although the results of a post mortem are not yet available it is suspected that she died from a heroin overdose. Foul play is not suspected, gardai said.

If confirmed she would be the eighth person to die from  heroin since mid 2011.

Just after 7pm on Friday Gardai from the Kerry Divisional Drug Unit searched a house  in Ardfert. Cannabis herb, cannabis resin, cocaine and a small amount of MDMA with an estimated street value of up to €140,000 was seized.
