GARDAI carrying out a drugs raid on a Dublin suburban house found ammunition stashed in a chimney breast.

Officers from Tallaght station in south Dublin discovered a haul of nineteen 9mm bullets and four shotgun cartridges when they checked the chimney during a search of the house at Ardmore Court.

Armed with a warrant issued by a district court judge, the officers raided the west Tallaght house, which they suspected was being used to store drugs for a local crime gang.

They seized 1kg of heroin, 15 €100 deals of cocaine and two larger quantities of cocaine.

The total haul has an estimated street value of around €90,000.

Gardai arrested a man and a woman, who were in the house at the time and brought them to the local station for questioning on Tuesday night.

The suspects, who are both in their early 30s, had not been linked to crime in the area in the past.

Last night the couple were being questioned under drug trafficking legislation, which meant they could be held without charge for a maximum of seven days.

Gardai said the swoop followed intensive inquiries in the area into the activities of a known drugs distribution gang.
