A MOTORIST miraculously escaped serious injury after a car spun out of control and ploughed into the side wall of a busy Cork garage.

The crash happened in the early hours of yesterday morning as the Renault saloon was driving past Turner's Cross filling station on Cork's south side. The vehicle veered off the road, ploughed through advertising signage and then smashed directly into the side of the garage building.

The driver escaped with only minor bruises.

Luckily, that portion of the garage building was empty at the time.

Gardai, Cork fire brigade and paramedics were on the scene within minutes but no one had suffered serious injuries.

One garda source admitted that, had the accident occurred during peak traffic, they would most likely have been dealing with a major tragedy.
