A MAN in his 30s has died in a crash involving seven cars on one of the country's busiest roads.
The collision occurred on the northbound carriageway of the N11, at the Ashford/Rathnew exit, at around 7am.
Gardai say freezing temperatures may have been a factor but the matter is under investigation.
A male driver in his mid 30s, reported to be from Wexford, was fatally injured in the collision. It is understood that he got out of his vehicle and was hit by another car. His body was taken to Loughlinstown Hospital.
He is the sixth person to die on Irish roads since January 1.
The N11 was closed northbound so that garda forensic collision experts could examine the scene. Diversions were put in place.
Gardai in Wicklow have appealed for witnesses or anyone who may have been on the N11 at the time to contact them at 0404 60140 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
